A statistic provided to me by the Distressed Home Institute stated that seven out of ten homes which are foreclosed upon never have an visible intervention-by visible they mean there was no effort to ever try to sell the home first.
According to a report completed by the State Foreclosure Prevention Working Group which was published on Washington Attorney General Rob Mckenna’s website, approximately the same percentage-7 out of 10 troubled home owners were not receiving help to avoid foreclosure.
If I could stand on Mt. Rainier with a megaphone and be heard by every owner in our area who is behind on payments or thinks they soon will be behind on payments I would do it…..and here’s my message:
Exhaust all your options first!
For many, there are options to foreclosure. Recent changes with respect to Loan modiications and refinances mean many owners may be able to stay in their homes. For others, a Short Sale is an attractive alternative, with a softer credit impact.
Information is power and the first step for anyone is to find out what their options are.
